Films: Suspiria (1977)
Alias: Mother of Sighs, Mater Suspiriorum, the Black Queen
Type: Mystical
Location: Haunted home
Height/Weight: That of an average human.
Affiliation: Evil
Summary: The Three Mothers. Truly the most vile of any cinematic witches. They cover a long history, but we must begin with the oldest, and the wisest, of the three. The madwoman known as Helena Markos.
History: The Three Mothers were responsible for the art of witchcraft, and have been around for centuries. In the 19th century, they tricked an architect into building them three separate buildings where they would perfect their craft and rain terror on the unfortunate. Mater Suspiriorum, dubbing herself Helena Markos, founded the Tanz Akademie (Dance Academy) in Germany, where she ruled with an iron fist. In the modern day, she rules in the shadows, as her students succumb to grizzly deaths the more they peer into the dark reaches of the building.
Notable Kills: One whole pit of barb wire. Who said witches can't use a bit of modern comforts every once in a while?
Final Fate: Unfortunately for Markos, she seemed to forget that long ago, a noble white witch by the name of Elisa Mandy sacrificed herself to weaken her into a state of feeble mortality. So when a student gets the opportunity to stab her in the neck, ding dong, the witch is dead, alongside the rest of her coven. Next Mother, please!
Powers/Abilities: Reality warping, possession, invisibility.
Weakness: Anything conventional.
Scariness Factor: 4-This old crone took a dance academy and warped it into the most mindless death trap possible. Indeed, one can not escape Suspiria without nerves of steel. And just think, we still haven't covered her two sisters...
Trivia: -The word "Suspiria" is Latin for "Sighs", seeing how Markos is known as the Mother of Sighs.
-The legend of the Three Mothers was inspired by a section from Thomas de Quincey's short essay collection, "Suspiria de Profundis", known as "Levana and Our Ladies of Sorrow".
